Hang gliding is a sport of flying in lightweight unpowered aircraft which is dramatically light and durable. Take-off is usually attained by launching into the air from a high mountain/cliff. Experienced pilots can stay in flight for hours due to their knowledge and skillset. This is possible where wind is bounced upward by a hill or mountain ridge of warm air called ‘’thermals’’. The aim of the game here, is to remain aloft for as long as you can while gliding to your destination controlled by a a kite-like cover and a steal bar to assist directional control.

Hang-gliding in Rio is one of the most popular sports and leisure activities in the city. With the use of the natural landscape, Rio’s mountainous terrain serves perfectly to accommodate this sport.
